Saltwater Pool Care

Saltwater pools are favoured for their simple and gentler approach to pool care, but they do have some unique needs when compared to traditional chlorine pools. Remember that salt pools are chlorine pools, pools equipped with a chlorine generator must be balanced the same as every other pool.  The process of chlorine generation through the salt cell (ECG-Electrolytic Chlorine Generator) generates unstabilized chlorine but doesn’t provide any other means of balancing the water, weekly testing and water treatment is necessary.  Just like traditional chlorine pools, saltwater pools can develop an algae bloom if not maintained properly and regular oxidization is required to remove chloramines and swimmer’s waste.

Read and follow manufacturer’s labels or ask our staff for application instructions before applying chemicals to your pool. Please note it is important to test the pool water weekly and treat according to your water chemistry test results.

SunShield Stabilizer

  • Increases CYA (cyanuric acid) – As a result of the chlorine generation process saltwater pools require the frequent application of stabilizer to protect the chlorine from UV degradation.
  • Prevents free chlorine residual loss in swimming pool water due to sunlight reducing chlorine consumption and maintenance costs.
  • Test CYA levels monthly and maintain a minimum of 30ppm
  • 2.75kg size available

pH Reducer

  • Lowers pH – The process of chlorine generation produces the by-product of sodium hydroxide which causes the pH to rise.
  • High pH causes the water to become basic which is scale forming and can cause eye and skin irritation, damage to the pool surface, system and system parts, pool wall discolouration, decreased chlorine activity/efficiency and contributes to cloudy water.
  • Ideal range is 7.4-7.6 for optimal chlorine activity and bather comfort
  • Apply 360g per 40,000L if pH reading is 7.7-8.0
  • Apply 600g per 40,000L if pH reading is 8.1-8.4
  • 4kg size available

Scale Defender

  • Protects against scale damage by binding calcium-based scale crystals to prevent clumping on surfaces resulting in a cleaner cell.
  • Monthly apply 1L per 40,000L
  • 1L size available

Chlorine-Free Shock Oxidizer

  • Removes cloudy water contaminants such as sweat and sunscreen for clear, fresh water.
  • Weekly apply 1kg per 80,000L
  • 1kg size available

Cell Cleaner

  • Removes scale buildup to restore cell to peak performance.
  • Salt cells should be cleaned at least once a season, use one bottle per cleaning.  Read entire label and use strictly in accordance with precautionary statements and directions.
  • 946ml size available
